Graffiti – The Unregistered Trademark

Graffiti was an important and very early moment of artistic self-discovery, emancipation, and free expression for me at the time. A lot has happened since then, and I have been able to grow and develop in many ways. So it's all the more wonderful that the exhibition will now take place in Worms, the place where I went to school and where it all began, with graffiti and subsequently art. Today, I approach the phenomenon of graffiti in a new way and find beneath its layers of paint further layers of paint and still more, which overlap, flake off, flow and are thus fascinatingly iridescent and vibrant documents of their time, some of which are reminiscent of geological maps. I am now able to present the first results of these explorations and archaeograffitological excavations in Worms for the first time.

June is going to be hot. Fortunately, I have been invited to take part in two exhibitions, which open on the same day at different venues.

On June 21st at 8 pm, the 30th Leipzig Annual Exhibition opens in the Werkschauhalle (Hall 12) of the Leipzig Baumwollspinnerei. I am very proud and happy to be part of it. I will be showing two works: my sound installation FERRUM and my photo series my recent mudras. I will be there and will be very happy to see everyone. The exhibition runs until July 13th. Many thanks to Leipziger Jahresausstellung e.V. for the invitation.

On the same day, the group exhibition Klangkörper - Künstlerische Musikinstrumente (Resonating Bodies - Artistic musical instruments) opens at 7 pm at the Kunstmuseum Heidenheim, where I will present my extended sound space installation TELLURIUM and the sound object installation PNEUMA together with other very exciting sound art works by other artists. Unfortunately, I won't be in Heidenheim for the opening. However, the exhibition runs until October 13th. So there is plenty of time to stop by. So if you're planning to come or are nearby, let me know and maybe we can meet there.
Torsten Pfeffer, a musician and artist friend from Leipzig, will be playing at the Tellurium for the finissage. You can look forward to that with me.

Our film is ready!
After a little more than two years, Iphigenie Worbes and I have finalized our first (opera) film. It is now ready to be released into the world.

The works of Ulrich Barth (Hanover), Torsten Pfeffer (Leipzig) and Andreas Schröder (Leipzig) could not be more different, be it differences within the medium of painting, as between Pfeffer and Barth, or in the media themselves, as in Schröder's work with photography, object and installation art. The differences make us think about questions of art and their respective media – questions of figuration and abstraction, expression and idea, innovation and repetition, virtuosity and spontaneity, color, ground, form ... – but also about backgrounds, attitudes, orientation and needs that express themselves behind and through themselves, confront and touch each other. This is what the three artists have entered into conversation and allow us in and share their questions, understandings and processes with us.

To mark the 200th anniversary of the death of Brockhaus publishing house founder Friedrich Arnold Brockhaus in Leipzig, the exhibition organized by Industriekultur Leipzig e. V. and Kunstverein ars avanti e.V. is dedicated to the topics of knowledge generation, storage and dissemination. The starting point is the Brockhaus Encyclopaedia, which still appears today as a guarantor of verified knowledge. This self-image is taken up in selected works of art by the artists Stefan Hurtig, Mingren Li and Andreas Schröder and questioned with regard to current or alternative forms of knowledge and data transfer.

Artist Residency at Schloss Werdenberg, Switzerland
April – June 2023
I am so grateful and honoured to be part of the artist residency, together with Christiane Gerda Schmidt from Cologne and Yasuaki Onishi from Japan. The residency culminates in the Schlossmediale Werdenberg, a festival of Early, New and Experimental music as well as visual and performing arts, curated and organized by Mirella Weingarten.
