Retreatment
Video performance, 5:49 min
The title of the work, Retreatment, alludes to two movements: treatment as the handling of a sensitive situation, a wound or hypersensitivity; and retreat as withdrawal – in the sense of escape and hiding away, as well as a possibility for reflection and reorientation. The hands are both the subject and object of the treatment, performing gestures of hygiene and care, intimacy and mutual struggle in self-touch, and gradually disappearing in the process.
Presented at the blind date award winners' exhibition at the plan.d. gallery in Düsseldorf.
