GRAMMA
Book pages, fans, rotating platform, nylon strings, mirrored walls
Developed during the artist residency and presented at the Schlossmediale music and art festival at Schloss Werdenberg, Switzerland, 2023

I was thrilled when I found this room in the castle tower, which was equipped with six mirrored walls. Jorge Borges' ‘La Biblioteca de Babel’ immediately came to mind, an infinite library with hexagonal rooms that fill the universe with their perfect tessellation.
The mirrored walls multiply the pages of the books in the room to infinity. Borges' story describes the absurd search of the human mind for knowledge and meaning in an infinite universe. In the room, stirred by the wind, the pages of the books flutter, making it almost impossible to read them coherently. Even what is fixed in the books is loosened and swirled around by the wind. The books are about Werdenberg or, more generally, the canton of St. Gallen.
Thanks to the generous donors of the books, Peter Schröder for the technical support, Eigenmann Lichtgestaltung for the atmospheric lighting, Corin and Meret for their help in hanging the mirrored walls, and Matthias Weninger for his help in threading the book pages!
